Japan Quake Map: 52 in Hualian, Taiwan

An earthquake struck the Noto peninsula in Japan on Saturday at around 4:10 pm local time.

The quake had a magnitude of 7.6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the quake was centered off the coast of Ishikawa Prefecture, about 200 kilometers (120 miles) northwest of Tokyo.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. However, the quake was strong enough to be felt in Tokyo and other parts of eastern Japan.

The quake is the latest in a series of recent earthquakes in Japan. On Thursday, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture. And on Wednesday, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Chiba Prefecture.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be prepared for aftershocks, which can occur for days or even weeks after a major earthquake.
